Healthcare Access Donation

Abiomed focuses on heart recovery and supports the education of healthcare professionals on the use and benefits of early hemodynamic support. Abiomed strives to fund innovative projects that improve healthcare access in communities served by heart recovery and/or revascularization centers.

In order to support 501(c)(3) organizations that benefit underserved communities within these areas, Abiomed looks to fund projects that focus on the following issues:

  • Improving early patient identification, education and management for high-risk cardiovascular disease
  • Improving cardiovascular patient outcomes
  • Supporting underserved or rural communities and patient populations through programs that focus on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and access to quality cardiovascular care (mobile clinics or otherwise)

Generally, applicants should expect to provide the following:

  • Start and end dates for the proposed project (Spanning no more than 12 months)
  • A description of the issue to be addressed, including baseline data that supports the need for the proposed project
  • A statement on the measurements of success, identification of measurable outcomes and a plan to evaluate measurable outcomes
  • A detailed budget with specific explanations as to how funds would be used

Abiomed may also consider the following items in its decision to award funds:

  • Whether the proposed project may be adaptable for use by other entities and whether the applicant is willing to share project information and outcomes with others
  • In instances where the requested funding is for an existing project, whether the funds sought would advance the project to another level or assist in implementing the project in another facility or community
  • Whether the proposal contains baseline metrics supporting need, outcomes, patient care and safety, increased service or access to care underpinning the request

Donations will not be awarded:

  • For charitable causes that could reward or induce past or future orders, lease, use, or recommendations of Abiomed products (Unique restrictions are placed on applications from health care entities, patient advocacy organizations and medical societies)
  • For multi-year commitments
  • For organizations that discriminate with regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, age, ancestry, marital status, disability, or protected veteran status
  • For religious organizations, except for non-sectarian activities
  • For requests that comprise a substantial portion of the charitable organization’s total operating budget
