Educational Grant Request
Abiomed provides support for many independent, educational projects, including scientific and policymaking conferences that promote scientific knowledge, medical advancement and the delivery of effective health care.
These educational programs typically include medical conferences, trainings and professional meetings sponsored by medical associations, academic medical centers, medical schools and continuing medical education (CME) providers. Programs may be accredited and unaccredited.
Abiomed is particularly interested in supporting bona fide educational activities that focus on:
- Mechanical circulatory support (MCS)
- MCS in cardiogenic shock
- MCS in heart failure critical care
- MCS supported percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), including high-risk PCI, hemodynamic support, right heart failure, acute myocardial infarction (AMI), cardiomyopathy, ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) and acute kidney injury (AKI)
- MCS in low cardiac output syndrome
- MCS site access and closure in large-bore cases
- Technologies complementary to Abiomed’s devices, including MCS with Shockwave intravascular lithotripsy, Rotablator rotational atherectomy and structural heart procedures.
Abiomed’s Grants Committee meets and reviews applications once per month. To receive proper consideration, requests should generally be submitted 60 days prior to program start dates to ensure sufficient time for review.
Abiomed’s educational grants do not support:
- Multi-year commitments
- Programs that have already occurred
- Programs that could reward or induce past or future orders, lease, use, or recommendations of Abiomed products
- Programs that could promote off-label use of Abiomed products
- Exhibits, advertising, or other promotional opportunities
- Organizations on the HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals and Entities, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Excluded Parties List System or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Debarment List
- Individuals
In addition to the details highlighted above, the Grants Committee considers the alignment of content with Abiomed’s educational goals, the educational impact of the program, the number and type of attendees, whether the requested funds are reasonable and consistent with industry standards and more.
